Maintaining the appearance of a perfect marriage, perfect children, or the perfect job can make for desperate times. No one can keep it up for long, mainly because we're all far from perfect. At Hope Summit, we get that. We're beginning a sermon series to examine what the Bible has to say about taking our families from "desperate" to "dynamic" and to focus on what really matters in life. Why put energy into a better appearance when you can put it into a better family?

Frank and his wife Shelli have been married since 1995 and they have two boys and a cat (that is just way too friendly). “Transforming lives into Christ-like disciples”
Colossians 1:28 says, “We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.” This verse gives the Biblical basis for the purpose of the Adult Ministries at the Hope Summit Christian Church. Simply stated, the purpose of the Adult Ministry is “to provide opportunities that will guide people on their spiritual journey, transforming their lives into Christ-like disciples.” God wants every believer to develop the character of Christ. The ultimate goal of a disciple is to become like Jesus.
Adult Ministry focuses in these four areas to fulfill its purpose:
Weekend and weekday Adult Bible FellowshipsLife GroupsLife Development Classes or seminars on prayer, parenting, stewardship, marriage enrichment, etc

Each of these areas aim at a different target of a balanced program of discipleship:
Know the Word of God (Knowledge)
Have the Mind of Christ (Perspective)
Have the Heart of God (Conviction)
Do all to the Glory of God (Skill)
Have the Character of God (Character)
The Adult Bible Fellowship classes target “Knowledge” and “Perspective.”
Life Development Classes or seminars target “Skills” development.
Small Groups target “Character” and incorporate all five of the purposes of the church in their structure (Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, and Evangelism).

When you read through the pages of the Apostle Paul's letter to the church in Corinth (1 Corinthians), you begin to wonder if you're reading the lyrics to a country music song - there's always someone fighting, drinking, and cheating on somebody.

So Paul shot off a letter we call 1 Corinthians, challenging them point by point to change their ways. Their immoral choices were beyond anything we read about anywhere else in New Testament! Paul essentially awarded them with what could be called the "CMT Awards" - The Corinthian Moral Troubles Awards.

Arts Team Core Values - Arts Core Values

Mark 12:28-34: . . . he asked [Jesus], "Which commandment is the first of all?" Jesus answered, "The first is, Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with your entire mind, and with all your strength"

A healthy and balanced worship lifestyle follows Jesus' answer about the greatest commandments. We must love God and others this way...with all our ...Heart (our choices)...Mind (our thoughts)...Soul (our feelings and emotions)...Strength (our body i.e. our actions)

To find a balance in our worship services we always ask these questions: Was our heart convicted? Was there a call to change? Was the mind engaged? Was there an opportunity for our intellect to be stretched? Was the soul inspired? Was there ample opportunity for an outflow of our emotions and expressions of gratitude to God Was our strength challenged? Did we physically express our worship and honor of God

The Five P's of the Hope Summit's Worship Ministry
• Prayerful: I will prepare for my ministry by maintaining my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I will also support the worship ministry by prayer for the church, the worship team and individuals I will be working with
• Purposeful: I will cooperate with all other ministries of the church for the common good and purpose of the whole body of Christ.
• Passionate: I will bring God my best offering of worship and praise.
• Perpetual: I will seek personal growth and education opportunities by attending workshops, classes, and reading articles provided by the worship ministry and team leaders.
• Prepared: I will attend scheduled team rehearsals for team development. I will continue to develop my gifts and talents, (personal rehearsal time)

Arts Ministry at Hope Summit - Arts Ministry

Hope Summit believes in the importance of gathering together in a corporate worship setting to encourage and build up each other. New and old Hymns, Modern praise songs and Choruses are all used to lead all worshipers before the Throne of Christ each week. Many forms of the arts are used such as dramas, special solo and ensemble musical arrangements, testimonies, dramatic Scripture readings, and the creative use of multimedia production. All are used to bring honor and glory to God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ through the power of His Holy Spirit.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will". Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:16-17

We are excited about your interest in our community of faith!
We want you to know up front that we are not a perfect church because we are made up of imperfect people. The good news is, God loves imperfect people, and we love imperfect people. That's what makes Hope Summit a great place for you and you're family. You're welcome to join us just as you are.

We are trying our best to be the kind of church that God wants us to be. Our mission is simple, To help people far from God become fully devoted followers of Jesus. What we do isn't about how fancy our facility is, how many programs we offer, or how we dress on Sunday… it's about people.

So whether you're someone who's just starting to ask questions about God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at Hope Summit Christian Church.

As a non-denominational, independent Christian church we unite people from all denominational backgrounds. This is a great strength of our church, but it can also pose somewhat of a challenge: what are the essentials that everyone must believe? Faithful, Bible-believing Christians can disagree over dozens of issues. Below you'll find what we believe are the essentials of the Christian faith agreed upon unanimously throughout 2,000 years of church history. While people may disagree upon finer points of theology, we think every Christian can and should agree on the following:

We believe in one God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3; 14:6-20).

We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died for our sins, arose from the dead and now reigns with God in heaven. (John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8).

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a gift from God to empower believers to live the Christian life (John 16:5-10; Acts 2:38; Romans 8:1-17; 1 Corinthians 12).

We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

We believe that every person has worth as a creation of God, but all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Genesis 1:26,27; 3:1-3; Romans 3:23).

We believe that forgiveness of sins and eternal life are available to those who place their faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Romans 5:1; Ephesians 2:8-9).

We believe that faith in Christ is expressed by believing in Jesus Christ, repenting of your sins, confessing Christ as Savior and Lord, and being baptized by immersion into Christ (Acts 2:38; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:9; Galatians 3:25-27; 1 Peter 2:20-21).

We believe that it is essential to live a committed Christian life after accepting God's gift of salvation (Romans 6:1-14; Ephesians 5:1-21; Colossians 3:1-17).

We believe that the Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to exalt God, evangelize the lost, and encourage, edify, and equip the saved (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:36-47).

We believe that Jesus Christ will one day return to gather those who followed Him to their eternal destiny in heaven and to condemn those who did not follow Him to their eternal destiny in hell (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Please Note: There are many other bible passages that could be referenced for each belief. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list of references.

Helping people far from God become fully devoted followers of Jesus.

After His resurrection, Jesus met with His eleven main disciples to give them His last minute instructions. He was going to leave soon to go be with His Father in heaven and wanted His followers to know what they were to do while He was gone. He said to them, ". . . go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and then teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you; and be sure of this-that I am with you always, even to the end of the world" (Mt 28:19-20). Jesus wanted His disciples to share His message of hope with as many people as possible. This hope could be experienced when people believed in Jesus (Jn 3:16) and lived the way that He lived (Jn 15:5-8). This mission is still the mission of the church today!

Welcome to Hope2Offer!

Hope Summit Christian Church has embarked on an exciting journey. It's a journey of a lifetime. It's a journey that began when the church began some fifty years ago and will continue until Jesus returns in glory. Our part begins now as we consciously choose to live a life of purpose-to help as many people as possible BELIEVE in, BELONG to, and BECOME like Jesus.

The Hope2Offer Campaign is another step on this journey. As we grow our faith and grow our church we need to continue to grow our facility. This change, while difficult, is ultimately a gift from God. More than a journey of commitment, giving and stewardship, Hope2Offer is truly a journey of spiritual growth.

Thank you for being part of our journey at Hope Summit Christian Church. We sincerely pray that Jesus Christ will be glorified in all that we do as we grow and continue to share with the world the HOPE He has to OFFER.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:13)

Dear Church Family,

This letter is written to inform you that the elders of Hope Summit have elected to submit to the congregation for confirmation the nomination of Frank Chiapperino to fill the position of Lead Pastor at the church.

We see tremendous potential in the merger of Frank's abilities with our staff and congregation. He has a compelling motivation to introduce lost people to Jesus, then disciple them into mature Christ followers. We want to bring Frank here as a member of our team, to provide leadership to our staff as well as training, motivation and enthusiasm to our people. We hope and pray that this will be a turning point - not only for Hope Summit Christian Church, but also for the Rochester community.

Frank has agreed to accept the call, and pending your approval, is planning on starting his ministry at Hope Summit on May 9th. The congregation will be voting this Sunday March 28th, 2010 to confirm his nomination. You may vote at any one of the 3 Sunday services - 9AM, 10:45 AM and 6:15PM (Encounter). A 2/3 positive confirmation by those present and casting ballots is required in order for the church to officially extend the call to Frank as our Lead Pastor.

Our by-laws state that all active members 16 years of age and older are eligible to vote. An active member is defined as someone who has been a member in good standing for 6 months prior to the vote. You must be physically present to vote as neither proxy or absentee voting is permitted. The vote will be taken by secret ballot and will be a simple yes or no vote.

We encourage all of you to participate in the vote this Sunday, and ask that you spend time in prayer and meditation while making your decision. A brief biographical sketch of Frank follows. You may also access the church website and view Frank's written answers to the interview team's advanced questions (http://tinyurl.com/hopesummitfrank). Frank also has a personal web-site you can access to learn more about him at (http://www.techpastor.net).

Frank Chiapperino Advance Questions - Frank Chiapperino

To: Candidate for Senior Minister

From: Evaluation Team, Hope Summit Christian Church

RE: Advance Questions

In preparation for your visit to Hope Summit, please provide the following information relative to the vision of your personal mission and to the theology of your faith. We suggest that a short single paragraph will provide sufficient information on our behalf. The goal is learn a little more about you and to ensure that our beliefs in Jesus Christ are consistent.

1. What influences do you recognize that have led you to vocational ministry?

I grew up in a Christian home and I am a fourth generation follower of Jesus. My dad was always involved in church leadership and ministry as a volunteer growing up, so I took an interest in how the church functioned at a young age. As a teenager I served in our band and led our "children's church" area teaching and organizing volunteers. As I entered high school, I began to take my faith much more seriously and began feeling God move in my life to enter the ministry.

2. What do you believe are your gifts for ministry?

With my gift mix I am definitely wired for leadership in the church. My spiritual gifts are Teaching, Administration, and Leadership. I love preaching. My biggest passion is helping people take God's word and apply it to their everyday life in a relevant way. As an administrator ,I have a gift in helping people organize their time, energy, and effort to reach the goals we set as an organization. Leadership is challenging but it brings me joy in different ways. I love helping people develop into their full potential. Wherever God leads me, I'm always developing others.

3. What do you believe are your weaknesses in ministry?

Pastoral care is a weakness for me. I'm not the best at providing a comforting presence for others. To address this weakness I actually focused on counseling and psychology as a part of my ministry degree. However, even that does not make me perfect when it comes to expressing love, care, and affection. I think the best approach to addressing a weakness is to surround yourself with people that are effective in the area in question. My wife definitely balances me out in this area and, as a leader, it is a priority for me to address it as I build a ministry team by finding others that perform well in specific areas that I do not.

4. Describe those experiences in vocational ministry that challenge and inspire you.

Change is something that challenges me and inspires me in vocational ministry. The part that is challenging about change is usually organizational in nature. I get excited about initiating change when it has a purpose, but I'm not interested in change simply for change's sake. When the data we collect as an organization indicates that there is an absence of growth, or that we are not achieving our goals, then change should be initiated. However, not just any change. We have to evaluate our systems, processes, and methods that have produced the results we are not happy with. Then we create a plan to initiate the agreed changes and ensure we communicate those plans to the church in a healthy way. The inspiring part about change is when it is life change. Seeing people's lives transform when they find Jesus is what makes all of the challenging parts about change worth the effort.

5. In service to the kingdom of God what are your short and long term goals.

I've tended to tie my personal goals and long range planning to my current role in ministry, with that now in transition I have to re-evaluate my thoughts in this area. I still do have personal goals and aspirations, but to contextualize them here would be difficult. If I had to list a few without detail they would be: publish a spiritual growth book, re-work smallgrouphelp.com to include a social media element (in progress), and develop an affordable coaching network for pastors that uses the latest technologies available now on the web. However, I do know that I always want to be a part of a "teaching church." Over the last few years I've began working with other churches as a consultant and I've enjoyed helping other pastors launch ministries and reach the goals they set to expand the kingdom.

6. How does your spouse support you in ministry?

My wife is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. She has been supportive and loving through every transition we've made over the last 14 years of our marriage. I see her as a balancing presence for me as I lead and guide others in their relationship with Jesus. As I stated earlier about my weaknesses in the area of pastoral care and compassion, this is a strength for her. My wife does a great job at softening my edge.

7. Who is Jesus Christ?

I believe that Jesus is the son of God, lived a sinless life, voluntarily died on a cross for our sin, was raised from the dead, and ascended into heaven. (Acts 2:22-42)

8. How did you come to faith in Jesus Christ?

I was introduced to Jesus at a young age since I grew up in a Christian home. I grew up in church and made the choice to be immersed at the age of 12. After my baptism I continued to maintain a passion for spiritual things in my youth. I was constantly involved in reading, studying, and discussion the Bible and loved helping others discover how it related to daily living.

9. By what means do you seek and cultivate your spiritual growth?

I tend to change up my personal spiritual time with God to keep things fresh. Sometimes I'll use devotionals, other times Bible reading only. One activity I enjoyed was going to one of the local national parks (Valley Forge) weekly for Bible reading and prayer. Another quite time I enjoyed (last year) was when my wife and I made a habit of reading through Proverbs together each night before bed. We had some great discussion about what God was showing us each day. Another key part of leading in ministry is staying connected to other Christian leaders. I think sharing ideas and burdens at conferences and other events with pastors nationally is key for my personal development.

10. In a paragraph or two, explain your understanding of the scriptural purpose of the Church and how it relates to Jesus Christ

Without turning this into a theology paper, I think the purpose of the church is wrapped up in Jesus' words in Matthew 28:18-20:

18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

In those verses I see 3 key components that we need to do as the church:Go - We need to spread the message and make disciplesBaptize - to make disciples we initiate that process with immersionTeach - to make disciples we need to teach them the scriptures

11. How do you understand one becomes a Christian?

When God has opened up an opportunity, I often find myself at a coffee shop or at breakfast with someone and I end up drawing the bridge illustration on a napkin. I'll ask them how close they think they are to God. I then share John 3:16 and Acts 2:38. Using those verses to indicate the process of salvation:BelieveRepentBe Baptized

12. How do you understand the principles of the Restoration Movement? Do you support those principles? Why or why not?

I do support the principles of the Restoration Movement. Unity within Christianity is key to effective ministry and reaching the lost. Part of the beauty of being a non-denominational church is the ability to reach people from many different backgrounds in a non-threatening way. I also love the focus the movement places on using scripture to dictate what we believe and practice instead of creeds. Going to the Bible as our source for knowledge and understanding is key to spiritual development within ourselves and guiding others. While I don't think creeds are bad to use, sometimes they can cause division in the body of Christ.

What's in a Name?

The Names of Jesus; In different settings, Jesus gave himself names
that pointed to special roles he was ready to fulfill for people. Some of
these refer back to the Old Testament promises of the Messiah. Others were
ways to help people understand Him.

In this series we will focus on Jesus Christ, the Son of God! Because
He is fully God, Jesus is able to reveal God to us clearly and accurately.
As we respond to the ministry and message of Jesus we will discover that
"He doesn't just change your life…He can change your Day!"

March 21: Kevin White… "He is the Bread of Life" John
      6:35
(Jesus gives life! He is the only source of eternal life).

March 28: Rick Walston… "He is the light of the world"
      John 8:12
(Light is a symbol of spiritual truth. Jesus is the universal
answer for people's need of spiritual truth).

April 4: Kevin White… "He is the resurrection and the
      life" John 11:25
(Not only is Jesus the source of life; He is the power
      over death).

April 18: Kevin White… "He is the Good Shepherd" John
      10:11
(This is a claim to divinity, focusing on Jesus' love and
      guidance).

April 25: Rick Walston… "He is the Way, Truth, &
      Life" John 14:6
(Jesus is the method, the message, and the meaning for
all people. With this title, he summarized his purpose in coming to
      earth).

May 2: Kevin White… "He is the True Vine" John
      15:1
(This title has an important second part, "You are the branches…"
Jesus reminds us that just as branches gain life from the vine and cannot
live apart from it, so we are completely dependent on Christ for spiritual
      life).

No Title - Shine the Light

Shine the Light:Pay attention to the word of the Prophets! For the next five weeks beginning on February 7, we will be examining the messages of the five Major Prophets of the Old Testament. Why pay attention to the Old Testament Prophets, you ask? The answer is found in 2nd Peter 1:19-21; “And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” Peter says, “We do well to pay attention to the word of the Prophets” because it is like a “light in a dark place.” The implication is that we live in a dark world and we need the light of God’s Word to shine in our lives! We will see that Jesus is: · “The Prince of Peace” in Isaiah on February 7th· “The Weeping Prophet” in Jeremiah on February 14th· “The Cry of Israel” in Lamentations on February 21st· “The call from Sin” in Ezekiel on February 28th· “The stranger in the Fire” in Daniel on March 7th. These Five messages from the Major Prophets will help us SEE the light of Christ foreshadowed in the Old Testament and they will help us SHINE the light of Christ in the world where we live! The entire Bible is God’s light to lead us to Jesus and to equip us to live as closely to Him as possible! I urge you to join in shining the light by grabbing this opportunity to “Pay attention to the word of the prophets!”

Climbing out of the pit - Psalm 40

Do you feel like you are in the pit and cannot climb out? Do you feel the more you try to get out the more stuck you get? Do you feel like God is not listening? Do you want to know that you are not alone? Do you want to know the value of telling others "your story"?

Join us January 31st as we take a look at David's Psalm that gives us some clear understanding How to get out of the pits...How to get back on solid ground...How to sing a new song...then most exciting...What happens when we tell others others what God has done for us. Worship Pastor Ric Rozsa will be preaching this weekend from Psalm 40 .
Psalm 40:1-3 NLT
1 I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
3 He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.

This ministry uses Plays and Skits to re-emphasize a particular theme in the service. Some are very humorous and others have a very serious tone and some combine a variety of emotions to make very powerful and meaningful statements about life situations that all of us face.
